Farewell to Nellie Joy
Nellie Joy served as Joy in the Journey Host from 2001 to November 2018. She recently moved on but is missed by many listeners. We recently interviewed her.
What are your best memories of Joy in the Journey???
That’s actually very difficult to say after 17 years but the ones that come to mind right now as my best memories of “Joy in the Journey” come from the very first programs…in August of 2001 as the Program Director.
Though it was definitely not my intention, desire or idea to be “on the air,” when asked to take on the added responsibility, I will never forget the sweet peace of our loving God that filled my heart… It clearly indicated to me, that God would be the One who would lead and guide me, that all would be well, and I would have no need to worry or be afraid.
The memory of that peace, which I sincerely believe came from God, I will forever cherish because it is promised to us in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” It was not a peace I could explain except for God putting it in my heart.
There were days when it was difficult to choose to be in the Spirit of the Lord. But GOD knew how to reach me with the “right” song or even the “right” listener who would be “impressed of God” to call and encourage me. Listeners who call and many times even come in to meet us, will always be one of my favorite memories of Joy in the Journey.
What kept you going for so many years?
Working alongside the JOY FM staff made it easy and a real delight to keep it part of my life for the many years God kept me in the ministry.
My biggest motivation was that I sincerely enjoyed what I did, playing music on the air to praise our Heavenly Father, knowing it would be a blessing to Him and an encouragement to the listeners who were seeking Him. Getting to know the listeners who would call and express their love for the Lord, as they requested songs or prayers for their loved ones or themselves was always the inspiration I needed to continue doing what I was called to do.
Any parting thoughts for our listeners?
To all the faithful listeners of JOY FM, thank you for your sweet fellowship in the Lord. I will miss you being a part of my days for I have been blessed by each one of you.
Please continue to trust in Him believing He is with you no matter what you are going through. Remember what He promises you and me in Matt. 19: 26 that what is impossible for man …”with God all things are possible.”
Continue to read your Bible to learn more about our loving God and His plans for you and for me. Keep listening to JOY FM and no matter what comes your way, good or bad, remember another promise Jesus gives us in Matt 28:20: “I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen.” God Bless you always!
